Bear Ministry

Raising funds for Bear Ministry
The "Bear Ministry" started at
Christmastime 2003. Debbie Bradley, President
of the ladies group, had asked for five volunteers
to help Campbell Chapel Church reach out to the
community. She then gave $20 to each of the
five women who felt that God had put it on their
hearts to volunteer.
I
knew immediately that I wanted to start making
bears. When a child has to go to the hospital,
emergency room; or just to have lab work or x-rays
it is a frightening time. I wanted something
that the workers could give those children to let
them know that they were special in the eyes of God,
also that someone cared and was praying for them.
We took the first set of fifty Bears
to Kings Daughters Hospital on March 1st, 2004.
The greeting I receive each month when I take the
bears over is wonderful. The women are so
excited to see what they look like each month.
We could not keep the ministry going
if it were not for the church family I have at
Campbell Chapel Church. We meet at Marie
Scott's house to cut, sew and stuff the bears.
We have wonderful fellowship working on the bears
together. My church family is so generous with
their time and donations of material and money to
keep this ministry going. I thank each and
every one of you.
At the present time we have taken
thousands of bears to the
hospitals; Kings Daughters and Cable Huntington.
The volunteer fire department called and asked if
they could have some to give to the children.
They said it calmed them down when they were in an
accident or their house on fire.
Our bears are giving comfort to a
scared and sacred child.
Please pray that God will
continue to Bless this Ministry and help us comfort
a small child and their families.
